The Wife of Cain

June 10, 2013

Did Cain commit incest? — A teenager friend of our youngest daughter asked her…The answer is very similar to the question in Genetics: Can Europeans really have genes from the Neanderthal man that lived 300,000-45,000 years ago?

I realized that every generation that starts studying the Bible and are instructed in main stream Christianity continues to ponder about these questions, especially if they are trying to prove whether the Bible is actually the Word of YHVH…As these young adults enter college they are faced with scientific evidence that sometimes contradicts what their Bible teachers taught them during their young lives, for example: that the Bible says that Cain’s wife was his sister, a daughter of Adam and Eve…the problem is that the Bible never says that…it is an interpretation by inference without taking into account the content of all the Sacred Scriptures…. What usually happens is that the young mind continues to be attracted by the truth found in science and starts discarding the truths of the Word of YHVH, thinking that someone lied to them.
What the Bible actually says is that Cain was condemned to be a fugitive and a vagabond the rest of his life. This indicates that he left the house of his parents Adam and Eve and when he got to the land of Nod (literally = wandering) in the East of Eden and there he “knew” his wife.
Genesis 4:16 — Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch…

Nod

Nowhere does it say that one of his sisters decided to follow Cain to the Land of Nod and “know” Cain there, for three reasons:
1)  Cain was cursed for killing his brother Abel in:
Genesis 4:11-12 –11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”

2) A MARK was placed of Cain so no one will kill him when people would find out that Cain killed his brother, but everyone would know that Cain killed Abel as soon as they saw the mark… It is very doubtful that a sister will follow Cain knowing all these things.
Genesis 4:15 –15 And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
3) When we continue reading we see that Cain knew his wife had a son Enoch and Cain built a city and named it after his son…

Genesis 4: 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son–Enoch.

Cain only had 1 son. Does it make sense that Cain will build a city only for 1 wife and an only son? Would Cain build a city for 3 people? A town?

It is more plausible that Cain found a wife in the land of Nod.

This is a problem…. Where did the wife of Cain come from?
Because the Bible does not tell us HOW YHVH does things, the mechanism that He created and used, then Bible scholars started to ADD their own interpretation with the limited knowledge in science that they had at the time. And they taught children that Cain’s wife was a daughter of Adam and Eve, since this question invariable comes up in every generation…
Of course by the time the children continue to grow and they hear that the Bible teaches that it is a sin to have sex with your sister and a hush, hush word “incest” is involved with it.
Leviticus 20:17 –If a man takes his sister, his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter, and sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness, it is a wicked thing. And they shall be cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered his sister’s nakedness. He shall bear his guilt

So, the teenager at this point asks, but if YHVH forbids it, why did Seth married his sister also? See sadly they are taught that Seth , the third son of Adam and Eve, had to marry his sister to be able to have children and grandchildren and eventually Noach.
Now the teenager is truly confused, doesn’t the bible say that God is not a man to change his mind?
Numbers 23:19 –”God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Did God agree with sex between brothers and sisters all the way until He gives the commandment to Moses to write it down as forbidden in the Torah?
No, these Bible teachers claim that their deduction that Cain married his sister is correct because:
1) God did not give us this law until Moses, many centuries after Cain, and “that it was ok to have sex with your sister at that time, later it became wrong”
The fallacy of this argument is that God  does not change His mind and also that He gave us first an “Oral Law” at the time of Adam, YHVH  walked with Adam every day and talked to him…
Genesis 3: 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”  10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
If the Law was not given until Moses, then how would the people of the time of Noach know that they did wrong and were swiped away with the flood?
So as we can see in the Oral Law, YHVH instructed man how they should act, and what was wrong to do and what is right to do.

2) The Bible teachers also told them that “all men came from Adam and Eve”, so Cain and Seth had to have sex with their sisters to have children”.
Their conclusion is wrong this time because they do not know what the definition of “Adam” is in the Hebrew… According to the Bible what made Adam different from all other animals was that God blew His Spirit into Adam.
So whereas all animals have a body and a soul (mind and feelings) only Adam had a third component in the image of God: “A spirit“.
If you have pets, you see that they can think, recognize owners, show feelings of love, happiness, sadness, anger etc…Even the crow, the bird, can build a tool with his peak and foot and fashion it to obtain food… In other words they have a body and a soul…
But what makes us humans unique in the Creation is our third component: the spirit.

So, if Cain knew a wife, someone that had the body of a human and the soul of a human but not the spirit, would be in accordance with the teachings of the Bible and also with science…Is this possible? Let’s see: The bible says that YHVH took the dust from the ground,

Genesis 2:7. And the Lord God formed man {ADAM} of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man {ADAMbecame a living soul.

We translated the word to man, but in the Hebrew it says ADAM, that is aleph  א(a), dalet ד(d) and sofit mem  ם(m)… Adam in Hebrew can be translated to either the name Adam or to man…The translator had a choice, and in this case he probably chose wrong when he translated it to man instead of to Adam, causing all the confusion.  The translator did it many times in the first chapters of Genesis. Adam is an “ish” with a spirit and a name given by God.

So I became the eternal student of Hebrew over 10 years ago and every time I go to the original Scriptures I am amazed by what it reveals!
In our English Bibles, the translators without discrimination, translated as “man” both the word “Adam” and the word “ish”… I think that YHVH may have had a purpose to use two different words to say the same thing “man”…

1) “Adam”= an “ish” with a spirit.

2) “ish”= human body and soul…also, it may have  a spirit if it is call Adam or one of his descendants.
So going back thru the Scriptures I think our Heavenly Father actually did have a reason to say “Adam” in one place or “ish” in another place of Genesis, but alas our English translators missed the point…
To find  Abba’s probable reason, walk the Torah with us below, if not skip to  the end:)

The first time in Genesis that YHVH says “man” is in Genesis 1:26
Genesis 1:26 NKJV
Then God said, “Let Us make man {ADAM} in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

In the Hebrew it says “Adam” it does not say “ish” (generic man). As we read we will find out that God in the first five chapters of Genesis, as He is doing the creation, He refers to Adam as an specific man, not a generic man = “ish”…It is the translators to English that chose to translate Adam = man instead of translating the word to Adam…Why doesn’t the Lord use the Word in Hebrew “Ish” which is specific for generic man, when He is talking about the Creation of Adam? Probably because Adam is more than an “Ish”. Adam is an “ish” + spirit.
Picture this Hypothesis: The Lord could have taken an “ish”(generic man with body and soul only)  that He made from the dust of the ground millions of years ago, and then breathe His Spirit in it, giving him his third component and called it Adam…Maybe about 6,000 years ago?
Then, Cain did not have to have sex with his sister, but probably met an “Isha” (a woman), with human-like body and soul (thoughts and feelings) but without a spirit.
The same case with Seth and his wife…
Now, their descendants would inherit the third component, the spirit from their dads, Cain or Seth…

Did Eve have a body soul and spirit? Yes she was a mutated cloned from Adam, who had a body, soul and spirit…She also is given a name Eve, which means the mother of the living, meaning only the human bodies with the soul and the spirit could live eternally in the presence of Abba Father…

Genesis 3:20. And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

Now the inheritance of the spirit is from Adam, Eve or the males Cain and Seth, who inherited the spirit from their parent/s, and they pass it along to their progeny as a “dormant-spirit”… Because of the lack of belief of Adam and Eve to YHVH, their spirit “died” or fell dormant that day of disobedience.

Genesis 2:16. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “of every tree of the garden you may freely eat 17. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Abba, gives in Genesis 3:15 the promise that one day, a descendant of Eve (The Messiah) will destroy death, represented by the descendant of the serpent that deceived Eve into disbelieving YHVH and hence disobeying Him eating of the forbidden fruit, which caused the spirit of Adam and Eve to die or fall dormant…

Genesis 3: 15. And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
This is why Yeshua tells Nakdimon (Nichodemus), that He has to be born again, but this time of the spirit, to be able to enter the kingdom of heaven.Because the descendants of Adam and Eve are born with a dormant-spirit.
John 3: 3 Yeshua answered him, “Most assuredly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nakdimon said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” 5 Yeshua answered, “Most assuredly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into the kingdom of God! 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Now, this teen becomes a young adult and in a science class she/he sees evidence that maybe the body of the human race has not been around only about 5,773 years according to his Bible teacher…and by now she/ he can read the Bible and reads that nowhere it says that humans exist for only 5,773 years, the Bible is mute regarding to the time that we exist.

Maybe it is better to say that we do not know?

In Genetics, when speaking of the Y-chromosome, the university student will hear that the fossils of bodies of man have been around for millions of years…They hear and see the evidence about the Neanderthal living 300,000-45,000 years ago…And the Cro-Magnon 50,000 to present time…Could this be true? Yes of course, the key word is ”bodies of man”  of “ish” being around for millions of years…But Adam, the first human to have a body, soul and spirit has been around for about 6,000 years if we follow the chronology in the Bible. Remembering also that time is relative according to Einstein, Moshe and Peter :)

Is this in accordance to the bible?       -Yes, of course…Genesis 2 says that God formed Adam from the dust…It does not tell you which methods He used, etc… So God may have created evolution directed with His speech and formed the body of man millions of years ago from dust. Dust contains the organic elements that are part of all living things, and that I am certain God also created, but it was not until about 6,000 years ago that He probably blew in the spirit to Adam… So how it all probably started?

Many years ago, I was in a physics class and the chart of the elements was brought up, and it was so exciting to see how in the beginning of creation of our universe, God first made  Hydrogen {H}, that had only one proton… and then He ordered two hydrogen to get together and formed helium {He} with its two protons… and then 1 hydrogen, with 1 proton, got together with 1 helium, that has two protons, and they together formed lithium {LI} that has three protons and so on , continued to build up until the formation chart of the 100 + elements was explained…Amazing!

Element periodic table

The Lord directed with His Speech that the organic elements got together and formed molecules and then more complex compounds until life was formed…continuing the same matrix, God continues to create His Creation from building up from the simple to the more complex life, and crowns His creation with Adam, by breathing His spirit into an “ish”, probably about 6,000 years ago.

Recently, a member of Etz Yoseph reminded me about the humor of our brother Judah, with the famous magic words known in every language “Abra Cadabra” which means, “whatever I say, it becomes true”. This sentence comes from the Hebrew: אברא כדברה/EVRA KI-DABRA, the Lord uses it in the Torah to say: He Creates as He Speaks.

Could all this process have been started by God billions of years ago?  -You bet! Abba is not contained by time…He created time, He directs it, and He is outside of it…and He explained to us in the Bible that time is “relative”…The students eventually will start seeing the connection and wandering about evolution…of course no one told them that YHVH may have created evolution Himself and did not explain it to Moses, as he would have not been able to understand it at the time…But YHVH knew that in time, the descendants of Adam would investigate all these things and at the appointed time by YHVH we will come to understand the mechanisms that YHVH may have used to create the body… Actually the students just might have heard the false testimony that in the book: “The Origin of the Species”, Darwin states that God did not have anything to do with creation, that everything was created by chance… When the student reads the book, she/ he finds out that in page 648-649, as Darwin gives us his conclusions, Darwin gives all the glory of Creation to God, and I quote:
“ There is a grander in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are now being evolved  ”
The first thing the student will think: “they told me another lie…” Hasatan may use all this to drive away the student from the Sacred Scriptures and eventually away from God…
How sad! All some of the Bible teacher had to say was “I do not know the answer” or ”I am just sure that God created us all”, and “the how it was done, YHVH will eventually let us know”.  But, not tell the student that the Bible tells things that it does not say…

Can we understand then how the body with the soul may have a Y-DNA haplogroup that is thousands of thousands years old, but our Spirit, which was blown into our forefather Adam, is only about 6,000 years old? —Ah, now, how Europeans today have Neanderthal genes becomes more understandable without contradicting the Word of YHVH.

I pray that we continue to speak with Truth to our teenagers and everyone else.
